With the presentation of the first plans for the new Arcona 380, the shipyard in idyllic Gustavsberg is now heralding the replacement of the Arcona 370. Arcona's successful model (test in YACHT 21/2006) has made a name for itself as a fast and high-quality performance cruiser and has been sold many times, not only in Sweden. Although her lines still look pretty today, they are no longer quite in keeping with the spirit of the times.

In-house designer Stefan Qviberg has therefore now been entrusted with a complete refit. The Arcona 380 is 20 centimetres wider than its predecessor with only a little more hull length. This means that the interior will have more space and the cockpit will be wider. In line with the class standard for boat sizes, the Arcona 380 now also has two steering wheels.

The new boat also gets a new rig. The shrouds are now attached to the outside of the hull on jib shrouds. This eliminates the issue of a large, overlapping genoa, which was still offered as an option on the 370. The foresail triangle has now been reduced to an overlap of 106 per cent. In return, the mast is significantly longer and the new ship will be able to carry more sail area overall. The rig concept provides for a spinnaker that is pulled into the top - good for a favourable rating according to ORC measurements. A gennaker will be available as an alternative.

Two keel variants are available: an L-shaped performance keel (standard) with an impressive draught of 2.40 metres, or a shorter fin, built as a T-keel with a draught of 1.90 metres. Both keel variants are fitted with a steel fin and a lead ballast body.

The Arcona 380 is presented as a standard three-cabin model with a wet cell. In the predecessor model, the Arcona 370, the living space was limited to just two cabins due to the somewhat slimmer hull. The Swedes have now also given their newcomer a separate shower compartment in the bathroom. Another new feature is a sliding navigation system.

The moulds for the Arcona 380 are currently being built in Sweden. The prototype is scheduled to be launched in spring 2014. Dealer Reiner Kürten from North-Yachting in Großenbrode has already named the price at the current exchange rate: the standard boat (without sails) will cost 264,000 euros.
